Summary:
THE TRANSFORMATION-Beth has always been “The Beast”—that’s what everyone at school calls her because of her awkward height, facial scars, and thick glasses. Beth’s only friend is geeky, golden-haired Scott. That is, until she’s selected to be her choir’s soprano soloist, and receives the makeover that will change her life forever.

THE LOVE AFFAIR-When Beth’s choir travels to Switzerland, she meets Derek: pale, brooding, totally dreamy. Derek’s untethered passion—for music, and for Beth—leaves her breathless. Because in Derek’s eyes? She’s not The Beast, she’s The Beauty.

THE IMPOSSIBLE CHOICE-When Beth comes home, Scott, her best friend in the world, makes a confession that leaves her completely torn. Should she stand by sweet, steady Scott or follow the dangerous, intense new feelings she has for Derek?

THE HEARTBREAK-The closer Beth gets to Derek, the further away he seems. Then Beth discovers that Derek’s been hiding a dark secret from her …one that could shatter everything.

Review: The relationship between Beth and Derek was one with many hard times and struggles, while still having a great chemistry and passion and love that keeps them together. The relationship at times was questioned by those around them and those they themselves questioning if they are meant to be, like many. At times, Beth kept questioning the relationship, and really I didn't blame her but at the same time I think it was mainly because she wasn't 100% sure of herself. She still saw herself as the beast.
I read many reviews of this book, and many of them questioned the extent that the characters went to to have Beth be "beautiful". Though I do think thy did do a lot, I don't think it was the most drastic thing to do. Many pointed out that this could show girls that to be beautiful and feel good about themselves they had to do these things, but I don't think so. I think this book actually does the opposite. Throughout the book Beth still sees herself as the best and keeps thinking "Why does he love me?" or "He's probably with her, why wouldn't he be ?". It shows more that even all those procedures won't make you feel better, they won't make you better, they won't make you beautiful only you yourself can make yourself beautiful. A couple procedures won't make someone fall in love with you.
I loved all the characters. Each one had their moments when they made me angry and I wanted to yell at them, but that would have gotten me some weird stares. I really liked Beth, the moment she made me angry was when she couldn't seem to see how great of a person she was, how beautiful she was, and how just because Derek doesn't call back it doesn't automatically mean that he's back with his ex. I loved Derek and he only had a couple moments when he made me freak out. i.e. Kitchen Scene after Pasta. Scott seemed to receive a lot of love in the reviews I read, but I just couldn't seem to find a place in my heart for him. I liked him but I didn't love him either.
To wrap this up. I loved the premise, I loved the characters, I loved how it played out, I love Angela Morrison's writing, and can not wait to read more from her, I really enjoyed this book, but there is one point that I didn't like. Near the end and at some points I felt like Beth needed to feel more than she did. I felt like it was to fast near the end. I expected and I was fine with most of it when I was thinking about it but I felt like it was too fast and she didn't feel enough. I have been anticipating it for a while and went in reading it with fear of not liking it from some of the reviews, but I really really enjoyed it and I give it a low 5 Stars, because the last page confused me and made me angry, like I talked about before but the rest of the book made up for it. urgh, that last page. If you've read this already please explain to me because it kind of broke my heart a little.

5 Stars
